Tapestry Weaver

"My work is an expression of my journey, process, the river of light within that invites conversation. My vocabulary is drawn from an inquiry of shapes, textures and colors. Anything that sparks the creative dialog is welcomed, a poem, an essay, a piece of bark, a stone, copper wire, an old button…These kinds of elements, serve as inspirational muses and often embellish the movement of threads across the warp threads of the loom.

My work is a visceral expression of my inspirations. Nature instills an inner perception with her vast panorama of diversity. The challenges of interpretations and reflections on nature are endless; and, like Marc Chagall claims, “…there is a single color… It is the color of love.” The creative dialog with my environment is intended to include and draw in the viewer. Rather than a static statement, I am intrigued with a connectivity that is vibrant and that enlivens our holy ordinariness. Transformation, for me, is an ongoing process of discovery and delight. Celebrating and creating beauty within myself, I give validation and support to the creative expression of a peaceful world."

"I live in New York and have been a working artist for more than thirty years.  I create original pastel paintings that use my large collection of Mexican and Guatemalan folk art, masks, carved wooden animals, paper mache figures, and toys as subject matter.

Blending with my fingers, I spend months painstakingly applying dozens of layers of soft pastel onto acid-free sandpaper.  My self-invented technique achieves extraordinarily rich, vibrant color and results in paintings that uniquely combine reality, fantasy, and autobiography.

My background is extremely unusual for an artist.  I am a pilot, a retired Navy Commander, and a 9/11 widow.  Besides making art, I am a published author and blogger best known for my eBook, “From Pilot to Painter,” on Amazon and iTunes, and my popular blog, “Barbara Rachko’s Colored Dust.” I sell framed pastel paintings available on my site. "I am an artist from Ubud, Indonesia.  Here I share some of my new artworks, about COVID- 19.

"Spreading Love" In the current situation, where the COVID-19 virus the outbreak has spread quickly around the world, making everyone haunted by extraordinary fear and panic. Love is the most important medicine to dispel fear and panic. We must spread love to everyone in any situation. In my works, the spread of love is spread through the hair. In times of crisis, when horror and panic are the most common conditions among people. To minimize these feelings only love can intervene to give another aspect to life and allow people to feel  confident.and that is what the this art collection represents. A request to spread love and come to the aid of others.
